Christ the Warrior

In life you may have to become like a warrior, and to be a warrior is to be like Christ, you will understand that after you read this section.

Life is a battlefield it is one battle after another with an occasional lull in the action from time to time. Probably one of the best things that could happen to young people is for them to join the Military and be indoctrinated with the ability to fight. I am not so much talking here about fighting with your hands or in a physical manner, but when you go to the military depending on where you are sent and what you are there to learn, you might just return home with the seeds of greatness placed deep within you and you may not realize it for many years.

I like to call it the “Heart of a Warrior”, it is something very deep inside that grows over many years, some will never realize it is there and for others it will come to the surface during very hard times in your life.

Iron sharpens iron.

Do not run from the struggles of your life; let life sharpen you. To be a hard man is not necessarily to be a bitter man. Have you ever looked into the face of a weathered soldier? They are like a stone, they can take it, they are tough, they are rough, and they can go the distance. There is nothing that can rattle them or shake them; they have nerves of steel.
 
Yes they have feelings just like everyone else but they have learned to control them instead of being controlled by them. Fear used to be an emotion but now it is a tool or a weapon.
 
Instead of being controlled by fear we learn to control the fear and use it.

A smaller force can overtake a larger force if the larger force can be made to fear!!! One soldier sitting on a hill can pin down a whole company of men with fear; in the military we call these soldiers snipers; one shot one kill. This tactic can be used against the enemy of our souls for those of you that might possibly know what I am talking about here.
 
In the Christian churches for the most part we are taught to be kind and loving and that this is to be like Christ. I am going to show you the same Christ but in a different light. Now when the Lord was on the earth walking with his disciples he was setting an example for us to follow, to be meek, to be humble, to be caring of others and such.
 
Now when Christ was crucified on the cross things changed a bit and a series of events began. The veil in Solomon’s temple split in two; meaning that through Christ we may enter the Holy place, he is the way the truth and the life. And something else happened; Christ entered the belly of the earth to preach to the spirits that were in prison there. The bible would say of this time that “the Lord triumphed openly over the devil and his forces(Colossians 2:15)”.

When Christ died on the cross he did not just die for the living but for the dead as well; he entered the belly of the earth and preached to the spirits that were in prison there. When he showed up at the gates of hell he did not ask permission to enter; no not this Christ, he had power, he shook the gates of hell and went boldly in.
 
As I said he “triumphed openly over the devil”, he made a show of it. What were the results of this? It is written in the word that some of the graves were opened and the dead were seen walking amongst the living. Why would this happen? It happened because Christ was setting people free. He died for all mankind both living and dead.
 
The part I am focusing on is the “warrior spirit”, the bold Christ that busted through the gates of hell. Now lets go forward; St. John the revelator had a vision and when Christ appeared to him in this vision he appeared as a Warrior King, as one having power, St. John literally fell to the earth as a dead man.

If you will read about Christ in the Old Testament prophets you will see some things. When the Lord returns he will be returning with an army of saints, it mentions the Lord carrying a sword, it says the Lord himself shall slay thousands!!! It says the blood will be to the horses bridle; that’s about 4 foot deep.
 
Who are these people that Christ is making war on? In revelations it tells us that he will be making war upon those that are destroying the earth(Rev. 11:18). I have never heard a sermon preached on that but it sure is interesting.
 
Now let me ask you is this the picture you have in your mind of Christ? Is the Christ that you know a Warrior King? Or is he a meek and mild, very humble man who died on a cross?
 
I am trying to say that the death on the cross was a victory, it was a transforming moment for all mankind, Christ set the captives free, he has all power and authority in heaven and in earth. It is a real power, enforced by the sword of a king.
 
There is a spirit world, in this world there is good and there is evil, there are some angels referred to as warring angels and they do carry swords. Why do they carry swords? What is there purpose? It is their purpose to enforce the will of their king, they are overcoming evil with good, they are taking by force.

It is written the kingdom of heaven shall suffer violence and the violent shall take it by force.(Matt. 11:12)
 
This is not a bad scripture it is a good scripture. All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. To overcome evil with good is to take action! God uses his angels in the spirit world to take action and he gets good results and so also in this world sometimes we have to take action to overcome evil with good.
 
To be a warrior is to be like Christ! And again I am not talking about punching your neighbor in the head here; I am talking about greater things.
 
When the Lord returns it is written of him that he takes by force and that he sets up a millennial kingdom for one thousand years upon the earth. It is written of him that he will rule with a rod of iron. Let me translate that for you, that means that it will be his way or the highway, he’s not going to be playing games.
 
It is written of this time that we will beat our weapons into plowshares and we will make war no more. This will be a time of peace on earth but it is only accomplished by force. It is kind of like the saying goes “peace through superior firepower”.
 
Ok, are you getting the picture then, to be a warrior is to be like Christ. There is evil in the world and sometimes we must take a stand against it, and praying is not always enough sometimes we must take action. What kind of world would we live in today if we did not take a stand against the Nazi’s? That is something pretty recent that we can all remember.
 
Some of you might be getting a wrong picture and thinking that I am a “Phinehas hood” or something, that is not what I am saying, I am talking about greater things here and not about vigilantism. We still have a great country here and that allows us the opportunity to work within the law and do many great things.
